 (1) The India lying entirely in the Northern Hemisphere.




(2) The main land extends between latitudes 8 degree 4 minutes north and 37 degree 6 minutes north and longitudes 68 degree 7 minutes east and 97 degree 25 minutes east.

  


(3) The tropic of cancer (23 degree 30 min) divides the country in to almost two equal parts.



(4) The South east part of India lays in the Andaman and Nicobar Island in Bay of Bengal.



(5) The southeast part lays in Lakshadweep islands in the Arabian sea.

(1) The land mass of India has an area of 3.28 million square km.




(2) India`s total area is 2.4% of the total geographical area of the world.



(3) India is the 7th largest country of the world.



(4) India has land boundary of about 15,200 km.



(5) The total length of the coast line of the mainland Andaman and Nicobar and lakshadweep is 7,156.6 km.


(6) India is bounded by the young fold mountains in the northwest,north and north east.


(7) South of about 22 degree north latitude it begins to taper and extends towards the Indian ocean.


(8) On the west side-the arabian  sea and the east side-the Bay of Bengal.


(9) The latitudinal and the longitudinal extend of the mainland is about 30 degree.


(10) But the east-west extend appears to be smaller than the north-south extend.


(11) From Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh  there is a time lag of 2 hours.


(12) Because the time along the standard Meridian of India (82 degree 30 min) passing through Mirzapur (in U.P) is taken as standard time for the Whole Country.


(13) The latitudinal extend influences the duration of the day and might ,as one move from south to north.
