INDIA AND THE WORLD
(1) The India landmass has a central location between the east and the west Asia.
(2) India is a southward extension of Asian continent.
(3) The Trans Indian Oceans routes which connect the countries of Europe in the west and Asia provide a strategie central Location to India.
(4) Note than Deccan peninsula spread into the India Ocean.
(5)Thus helping India to establish close contact with west Asia,Africa and Europe from the western coast and with Southeast and East Asia from the eastern coast.
(6) No other country has a long coastline on the Indian ocean as India has so that the name given after it.
(7) India's contacts with world have continued through the ages but her relation ships through the land route are much older than her maritime contacts.
(8) The various passes across the maintain in the north have provided passage to the ancient travellers, While many didn't know about oceans for a long time.
(9) These routes are very helpful in the exchange of ideas and commodities,since ancient time.
(10) The ideas of the Upanishads and Ramayana,the stories of panchtantra the Indian numerals and the dcimals system thus could reach many parts of the world.
(11) The spices,muslin and other merchandise were taken from India to different countries.
(12) On the other hand ,the influence of greek sculptures and the architectural styles of dome and minarets from west Asia can be seen in different parts of our country.
INDIA'S NEIGHBOURS
(1) INDIA has 29 states and 7 union territories.
(2) India shares its land boundaries with Pakistan and Aghanistan northwest,China(Tibet),Nepal and Bhutan in the north and Myanmar and Bangladesh in east.
(3) Our southern neighbours across the sea consist of the two island countries, namely Sri lanka and Maldives.
(4) Sri lanka is separate from India by a narrow channel of sea situated to south of the Lakshdweep Islands.
